Fairdale
Stud was established by the late Arthur Fell in 1949 on a property
farmed by his family since 1910.
Pakistan II, imported in 1963, was Champion Sire of Two Year Olds
with his first crop, named champion New Zealand sire three times
plus won the Dewar Stallion award three times as the leading stallion
in Australasia.
He died prematurely aged thirteen years, leaving a total of eight
crops to race. They created a lasting legacy through his daughters
and are responsible for Fairdale having maintained its position
today as a successful breeder of high-class winners internationally.
Arthur's
son Gerald has been actively involved in the ownership and management
of the stud all his working life.
During those years many outstanding winners were bred including
Australian Horse of the Year and Melbourne Cup winner HYPERNO, and
PETRAVA - champion 3 yr old filly in South Africa.
Fairdale
Stud now enters its third generation of family management. Duncan,
after extensive experience on cattle stations and thoroughbred stud
farms both overseas and locally, has become a partner in the business
and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the stud. Duncan
is currently President of the Central Districts Branch of the NZTBA,
and a National Councilor.
After 60 years of successful breeding Fairdale remains committed
to the Industry.
Our goal is to continue to breed top-class horses internationally
and to offer our experience and advice to clients to meet the challenges
of ever changing markets.
Arthur Fell would be proud of us!
